Quality
Welding standards
Three standards define what a weld from this hall is: EN 1090-2 for the execution class, EN ISO 5817 for the quality level of each weld, and EN ISO 3834-2 for the system that produced it.
Execution class EXC2 to EN 1090-2
EN 1090-2 sets the technical requirements for the execution of steel structures. Execution class EXC2 is the class for most industrial structures: buildings, plant, machine frames and access steel where failure would have serious but not catastrophic consequences. It fixes the weld quality level, the inspection scope, the tolerances and the traceability the fabricator must keep.
We execute to EXC2 as standard. Where a drawing calls for EXC3 details on particular joints, that is agreed at drawing review, not assumed.
What we do not claim: an EN 1090-1 factory production control certificate from a notified body, or a CE declaration of performance under it. Neither is published by the parent company and neither is printed here. If your project requires a DoP, say so in the enquiry and we will tell you whether we can supply it.
Weld quality level C to EN ISO 5817
EN ISO 5817 grades the imperfections a weld may contain into quality levels B, C and D. EN 1090-2 assigns level C to execution class EXC2 and level B to EXC3 and EXC4. Every weld from this hall is assessed to level C as standard; a drawing may call for level B on particular joints, and that is agreed at drawing review and inspected accordingly.
The assessment is visual, to EN ISO 17637, on every weld before it is painted. Tolerances of the welded structure as a whole are to EN ISO 13920 unless the drawing states tighter ones.
The welding system
Our welding quality management is certified to EN ISO 3834-2:2006 by PQM, s.r.o. The certificate enclosure names the product types, the product standards, the material groups and the processes it covers. This is what it says.
Welding coordination
A responsible welding coordinator qualified as International Welding Engineer (IWE) is named on the certificate. Every WPS is issued and every deviation is decided under that coordination.
Welders
Qualified to EN ISO 9606-1 for the process, material group and position they weld. Robotic welding runs under the same written procedures with qualified operators.
Outside the certified scope
The certificate enclosure lists what the system covers. The following is not in it and is not offered as certified work.
- Pressure vessels and pressure equipment: the scope names welded atmospheric tanks (EN 12285-2, EN 14015, API 650) and structures, not pressure equipment
- Aluminium: ISO/TR 15608 groups 1 and 8 only, so no aluminium welding is offered
- Structural steel above 40 mm and austenitic stainless outside 3 to 16 mm
- An EN 1090-1 factory production control certificate and a CE declaration of performance
- Welding processes other than MAG 135, manual and automated
