Steel platforms, stairs and walkways welded to drawing
Access steel for a machine or a plant: a grating walkway on raking props with a landing and a stair, a stair unit with a platform on castors, a service platform with a tubular guard rail, a platform frame of hollow sections with guard rail panels. The deck, the rail and the stair are welded assemblies that bolt together on site.
The gallery holds platforms from a single step of a metre to a walkway with stairs of nine metres, and a container raised on posts with its own landing.
What the drawing must show
A part like this is priced from the drawing. The quotation is fastest when it carries:
- The deck level, the rail height and the stair pitch
- Grating type and how it is fixed, and the handrail section
- Section sizes and the material grade, and the bolted splices for transport
- Weld symbols on the stringers and the props, and the inspection level
- The finish: painted, or hot-dip galvanised on request
7 models of this type
Real structures that came through this company as built jobs, quoted enquiries or designs from our own office, shown as anonymous models with their measured size. Open one for its description.
- Overall size, L x W x H
- 9 001 x 3 982 x 3 014 mm
A long grating walkway forms the deck of this platform, built up from steel channel edge beams, tubular handrails and raking props that angle down to base plates. A wider grating landing with a ladder-like brace sits at one end, while open steel stair treads with handrails descend from the other. The structure measures about 9.0 m long, 4.0 m wide and 3.0 m high. In this hall a part like this is welded out on a fixture, then blasted and painted in the booths on site.
- Overall size, L x W x H
- 9 173 x 6 056 x 4 921 mm
A raised container body stands on tubular steel posts with square base plates, cross braced and topped by a corrugated grating roof. Its open end carries a railed grating landing with mesh infill and a railed stair down to the floor, while the walls show folded corrugated panels and a door opening. It measures about 9.2 m long, 6.1 m wide and 4.9 m high. Such parts are welded out on a fixture.
- Overall size, L x W x H
- 1 870 x 1 240 x 2 050 mm
A mobile stair unit built up from a grating stair, a grating platform and a raised grating shelf, framed in hollow section posts and rails with tubular handrails on both sides. A base frame of hollow sections carries castors at one end so the whole unit can be rolled into place. It measures about 1.9 by 1.2 m and stands about 2.0 m high. A part like this is welded out on a fixture, then blasted and painted before shipping.
- Overall size, L x W x H
- 3 210 x 2 210 x 434 mm
A flat rectangular platform frame built up from hollow section members, with cross braces forming the floor support and three open guard rail panels fixed to it, one at each end and one across the middle. Each rail panel has evenly spaced vertical posts between top and bottom rails. It measures about 3.2 by 2.2 m, standing roughly 0.4 m high. Such parts are set on a fixture, tacked and welded out.
- Overall size, L x W x H
- 2 352 x 559 x 1 152 mm
A service platform made from a narrow folded steel plate deck set in a welded box edge, with a bent tubular guard rail of mid rails and upright posts along one side. One end curves into a hooped gate opening, with a hinge lug and bracket for the swinging section. It measures about 2.4 m long, 0.6 m wide and 1.2 m high. A part like this is folded on the 400 t press brake and run on the 14 m robotic welding track when the batch allows.
- Overall size, L x W x H
- 2 750 x 1 910 x 914 mm
A top crossbeam structure like this frames a raised platform on box section legs, with plated beams, a flat chequered deck and bolted base pads at each foot. The notable feature is the open stepped corner where the deck drops away, framed by diagonal gussets and a folded plated end panel. It measures about 2.8 by 1.9 m and stands about 0.9 m high. A part like this is tacked up on a fixture and welded through, with the bores and pads machined after welding.
- Overall size, L x W x H
- 950 x 607 x 509 mm
A step unit with two perforated tread plates set side by side, each with a row of circular lightening holes, carried on an end flange with bolt lugs and ribs underneath. A perforated support box sits under one tread, with slotted edges for fixing at its base. It measures about 0.9 m long, 0.6 m wide and 0.5 m high. A part like this is laser cut up to 20 mm and set on a fixture, tacked and welded out.
Each model is rendered from its own geometry in raw steel, without paint, and is shown as a still. Customer names, machine designations and drawing numbers are not published; part lists and files are not offered. The interactive model above this section is a parametric example, not one of these.
How a part like this goes through the hall
Stringers, posts and brackets are laser cut and folded, rails are bent from tube, and the sections are welded on a table so the splices line up. A platform that fits the blasting chamber, 8 000 x 5 000 x 3 000 mm, is blasted and painted in house; hot-dip galvanising is arranged on request. The sections are trial fitted and measured before they ship.
