Storage racks, rack bays and welded columns
Welded racking for long goods and heavy parts: cantilever rack bays of two beams on upright posts with arms, a run of welded columns with cantilever arms, a long box column with a foot plate, a rotary store column with cut-outs, and a row of stands with saddles for round stock. Repetition is the point: the same post, arm or saddle many times over.
The gallery holds rack elements from six metres to a run of nineteen metres.
What the drawing must show
A part like this is priced from the drawing. The quotation is fastest when it carries:
- The arm pitch and the post spacing, and the loads the drawing is designed for
- Section sizes and the material grade
- Hole patterns in the posts and the foot plates, with their tolerances
- Weld symbols on the arm to post joints, and the inspection level
- The finish, and the bolted splices for transport

- Overall size, L x W x H
- 18 935 x 5 555 x 6 005 mm
A storage rack system like this is built from tall box-section columns joined by cantilever arms in level rows, with raked back braces on welded base plates. A repeating run of matched frames stands alongside one spare frame. It measures about 18.9 by 5.6 m and stands about 6.0 m high. A part like this is set on a fixture, tacked and welded out and welded by hand or on the 14 m robotic welding track.
- Overall size, L x W x H
- 6 005 x 1 707 x 1 302 mm
A rack bay made from two long box section beams carried on a row of welded box section uprights, braced along the base with diagonal ties and linked at both ends by cantilever arms with drilled plates. The repeating open bays between posts and the bolt holed end arms stand out. It measures about 6.0 m long, 1.7 m wide and 1.3 m high. Such a part is welded by hand or on the 14 m robotic welding track, with every bore and pad cut after welding.
- Overall size, L x W x H
- 5 250 x 1 884 x 2 100 mm
A row of plate uprights forms this support stand, each pair cut into a deep rounded saddle and braced back to a common base rail on angled foot plates with bolt holes. The slotted, pierced tops and the clean curved seats between each pair stand out. It measures about 5.3 by 1.9 m and stands about 2.1 m high. Parts like this are cut on the 2 000 x 4 000 mm laser bed, plate up to 20 mm and welded out on a fixture.
- Overall size, L x W x H
- 5 830 x 1 550 x 1 302 mm
A rack element built as a ladder-like frame of two parallel channel beams joined by evenly spaced upright posts, with flat plated panels running along the top edges. Both ends fold into open, flared sections with bolt holes for linking further modules. It measures about 5.8 m long, 1.6 m wide and 1.3 m high. Such a part is cut from plate on the laser bed, folded on the 400 t press brake and welded out on a fixture.
- Overall size, L x W x H
- 6 955 x 1 500 x 1 500 mm
A storage column built as a long welded box section in plate, with a row of small brackets and bolt holes down its length and an insert strip along the top face. One end carries a large square foot plate, drilled for fixing and braced inside with a diagonal rib. Overall it measures about 7.0 by 1.5 by 1.5 m. Parts like this are welded by hand or on the 14 m robotic welding track, then bored and faced on the boring mill.
- Overall size, L x W x H
- 6 042 x 609 x 510 mm
Rotary store column built as a long welded box section from plate, with top flanges and an end plate carrying a ring of bolt holes and a large bore. Rectangular and round cut-outs run along both side faces, with a pair of lugs near one end. It measures about 6.0 by 0.6 m. Such a part is cut on the 2 000 x 4 000 mm laser bed, plate up to 20 mm and tacked up on a fixture and welded through.
Each model is rendered from its own geometry in raw steel, without paint, and is shown as a still. Customer names, machine designations and drawing numbers are not published; part lists and files are not offered. The interactive model above this section is a parametric example, not one of these.
How a part like this goes through the hall
Posts and arms are cut from hollow section and plate, the foot plates and brackets laser cut, and the elements are welded on a fixture that holds the arm pitch for the whole series, on the 14 m robotic track where the batch justifies it. The elements are blasted and painted in house, and measured before they ship.
