Type
Conveyor supports, cross members and parts
The pieces around the belt: a support frame standing on perforated legs, a cross member with a bracket at each end, a side beam with cut-outs and a folded flange, and a rotor with beater bars on a shaft. Small on their own, these parts come in series and have to fit the frame they belong to.
In the gallery the type runs from a cross member of a metre and a half to a support frame of five metres.
What the drawing must show
A part like this is priced from the drawing. The quotation is fastest when it carries:
- Hole and slot positions with their tolerances, because these parts bolt to something else
- Plate thicknesses and section sizes with the material grade
- For a shaft or a drum, the machined diameters, their tolerances and the bearing seats
- The batch size, so the fixture and the welding method can be chosen for it
- The finish

Real structures that came through this company as built jobs, quoted enquiries or designs from our own office, shown as anonymous models with their measured size. Open one for its description.

A welded conveyor support frame rises on four perforated, lattice-style legs, tied together by a long cross beam with plate ribs, pivot brackets and lifting eyes on top. One end boxes up into a machined housing with a bored pivot seat, while the legs carry rows of lightening holes for a lighter, open structure. It measures about 4.9 m long, 2.4 m wide and 2.0 m high. A piece like this is set on a fixture, tacked and welded out and laser cut from plate up to 20 mm.
- Overall size, L x W x H
- 1 697 x 867 x 820 mm
A rotor like this carries four straight beater bars welded along a shaft between two end plates, with a grooved belt pulley mounted on one bearing housing and a lifting eye at the opposite end. The spiral run of bars and the machined bearing seats on each face stand out against the plain plate body. It measures about 1.7 m long, 0.9 m wide and 0.8 m high. Here a part like this is welded out on a fixture, then bored and faced on the boring mill.
- Overall size, L x W x H
- 1 710 x 1 298 x 694 mm
A welded cross member joins two side brackets with box section rails, diagonal braces and a cross tube, tied together by gusset plates and reinforcing ribs. Each bracket is a folded plate arm with slotted holes, bored pin lugs and a pierced flange face for mounting. Overall size is about 1.7 m long, 1.3 m wide and 0.7 m high. A piece like this is set on a fixture, tacked and welded out, with every bore and pad cut after welding.
- Overall size, L x W x H
- 1 458 x 937 x 498 mm
A welded cross member joins two angled plate brackets with a central box section tube and short stub arms. Each bracket is built from folded plates and gussets, with a bored pivot lug, rows of mounting holes and slotted faces for fitting other parts. It measures about 1.5 m long, 0.9 m wide and 0.5 m high. A piece like this is welded out on a fixture and laser cut from plate up to 20 mm.
- Overall size, L x W x H
- 1 895 x 197 x 488 mm
A conveyor side beam made from a long side plate with a folded top flange, rectangular cut-outs along the web backed by folded triangular tabs, and drilled holes along the lower edge with a small bracket at one end. The regular rhythm of cut-outs and tabs stiffens the open web. It measures about 1.9 m long, 0.2 m wide and 0.5 m high. Pieces like this are set on a fixture, tacked and welded out and laser cut up to 20 mm.
Each model is rendered from its own geometry in raw steel, without paint, and is shown as a still. Customer names, machine designations and drawing numbers are not published; part lists and files are not offered. The interactive model above this section is a parametric example, not one of these.
How a part like this goes through the hall
Blanks are laser cut up to 20 mm and folded on the press brake. A series is welded on a fixture, on the 14 m robotic track where the batch justifies it. Shafts and seats are turned and bored on the lathes and boring mills on site. The parts are blasted and painted, and a batch is measured against the drawing before it ships.
