Type

Welded hoppers, feed troughs and bunker bodies

The welded plate body that receives bulk material: a feed hopper with sloped end walls, a trough hopper with stiffening ribs and inspection doors, a tapered hopper on a tube frame, a bunker body of angled walls, and twin or triple hopper units set into a container frame with corner castings. Flaps and slide gates belong to the same type.

The gallery holds hoppers from a slide gate frame of a metre and a half to a triple hopper unit of twelve metres.

What the drawing must show

A part like this is priced from the drawing. The quotation is fastest when it carries:

  • The plate thicknesses and the material grade, and whether a wall is a wear part
  • The fold lines and the stiffener pitch, or the freedom to choose them
  • The outlet size and the flange or gate on it
  • Weld symbols on the seams, whether they must be continuous, and the inspection level
  • The finish inside and outside, and any faces that stay bare

  • Overall size, L x W x H
    6 058 x 2 563 x 2 591 mm

A twin hopper unit built into a container frame, two plated hoppers side by side with sloped bottoms, discharge outlets, and folded top edges, all carried on corner castings over a floor grid of hollow sections and rows of short posts. The split top opening and paired discharge chutes with access covers stand out against the box frame. It measures about 6.1 by 2.6 by 2.6 m. Parts like this are welded on the robotic track or by hand, with every bore and pad cut after welding.

  • Overall size, L x W x H
    4 566 x 2 568 x 1 595 mm

A feed hopper in plate: a flat feed tray in a folded rim frame, plate flaps along both long sides and a rear wall with a grating step. A round drive housing hangs underneath, with brackets on the sides. It is about 4.6 m long, 2.6 m wide and 1.6 m high. Pieces like this are folded on the 400 t press brake and run on the 14 m robotic welding track when the batch allows.

  • Overall size, L x W x H
    4 888 x 2 500 x 755 mm

A long open feed hopper formed from folded steel plate, with sloped end walls, folded top edges and a central longitudinal beam bracing the floor underneath. Diagonal ribs stiffen one end wall, while flanged lugs, bolt holes and mounting pads along the sides and ends allow connection to adjoining equipment. It measures about 4.9 by 2.5 m and stands 0.8 m high. Pieces like this are folded on the 400 t press brake and run on the 14 m robotic welding track when the batch allows.

  • Overall size, L x W x H
    12 192 x 2 438 x 2 591 mm

A triple hopper unit built from three plated, sloped hoppers set in a row inside a container frame with corner castings. Folded plate walls taper down to a narrow discharge opening under each hopper, carried on a floor grid of hollow sections with rows of short posts. It measures about 12.2 m long, 2.4 m wide and 2.6 m high. In this hall a part like this is tacked up on a fixture and welded through, then finished in the blasting and paint booths on site.

  • Overall size, L x W x H
    4 664 x 1 364 x 750 mm

An open trough hopper made from folded steel plate with sloped side walls and a flat base, stiffened by upright ribs along both sides. Round bored ports sit in each wall, with a hinged inspection door and a smaller access panel near one end. It measures about 4.7 m long, 1.4 m wide and 0.8 m high. A piece like this is bent on the 400 t press brake and run on the 14 m robotic welding track when the batch allows.

  • Overall size, L x W x H
    1 750 x 1 550 x 4 865 mm

A small hopper assembly built from a square top-fed box with folded plate walls, tapering to a pyramidal chute with an outlet valve, carried on four tube legs with cross braced lattice bracing and welded foot plates. The crossed diagonal bracing and flanged top rim stand out. It measures about 1.8 by 1.6 m in plan and stands about 4.9 m high. A part like this is tack welded on a fixture and welded out.

  • Overall size, L x W x H
    1 503 x 1 406 x 1 609 mm

A feed hopper section built as a tapered plate box with sloped side walls, folded top and bottom edges, and external stiffener ribs along the faces. Mounting brackets, lifting hooks and small bored pads sit along the sides, while the open throat reveals internal corrugated baffle plates set in angled rows. It measures about 1.5 by 1.4 m and stands about 1.6 m high. Such a part is welded out on a fixture, then blasted and painted before shipping.

  • Overall size, L x W x H
    1 935 x 1 924 x 1 017 mm

A bunker hopper body formed from two angled plate walls meeting in an L shape, with folded upper edges, upright stiffening ribs, a floor plate and hinge lugs at the side. A pivot bore and bracket plates under the trough stand out, along with the folded wall edges and rib pattern. It measures about 1.9 by 1.9 m and 1.0 m high. In this hall a part like this is welded out on a fixture, then machined after welding on a horizontal boring mill.

  • Overall size, L x W x H
    7 353 x 1 480 x 554 mm

A formed trough section built from folded steel plate, with side walls curving down into a rounded base and a row of oval openings along one wall. A rolled, U-shaped lip closes one end, while a small bracket and angled lug sit underneath near the other. It measures about 7.4 m long, 1.5 m wide and 0.6 m high. Pieces like this are folded on the press brake and welded on the 14 m robotic track for a series, by hand for a one-off.

  • Overall size, L x W x H
    3 282 x 644 x 1 540 mm

A welded flap assembly built as a long plated box frame with cut-out windows, ribbed underside and a row of stiffeners, carried on two shaped pivot arms with hinge brackets below. Each arm ends in a machined bore with a protruding pin, set to take a mating shaft. It measures about 3.3 m long, 0.6 m wide and 1.5 m high. Pieces like this are cut from plate on the laser bed and welded out on a fixture.

  • Overall size, L x W x H
    1 436 x 1 220 x 194 mm

A slide gate frame built from welded box section rails forming a flat square frame, with a steel sliding plate running in guide channels and mounting lugs at the corners. A threaded spindle crosses the frame to a hand crank on one side, driving the plate between its rails. It measures about 1.4 by 1.2 m and stands about 0.2 m high. Parts like this are tacked up on a fixture and welded through, then machined after welding on a horizontal boring mill.

Each model is rendered from its own geometry in raw steel, without paint, and is shown as a still. Customer names, machine designations and drawing numbers are not published; part lists and files are not offered. The interactive model above this section is a parametric example, not one of these.

How a part like this goes through the hall

Walls are laser cut on a 2 000 x 4 000 mm bed up to 20 mm and folded on a 400 t press brake over 6 050 mm, so a hopper wall is one folded plate wherever the length allows. The body is welded on a fixture, stiffeners and flanges are added, and a frame or container base is welded under it. The hopper is blasted and painted in house. Stainless walls from 3 to 16 mm are welded where the material calls for it.
